Keeping an eye on this yurt that is being built up on the hill with a million dollar view of the bay, the village, the mountains and the foxgloves. walked around tonight searching for berries and checking out a couple of warships here in the bay. Feasted on fresh pink spring salmon this week.
This is a work in progress but I will be back to add more details and pictures....

20-Minute Huckleberry Muffins Recipe - Breakfast.Food.com - 240747
Banana Oatmeal Berry Muffins
1 1/2 cup oatmeal
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup mashed banana (or applesauce)
1/4 cup veg oil
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1 cup berries - whatever you have - huckleberries, mixed berries, blueberries - just fold in
Topping
1/3 cup oatmeal
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp butter or marg
Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes

July 4 - back to work
working 9 - 5 today, on call tonight and tomorrow night...maybe I'll plug in my ipod later, listen to Il Volo and go for a nice walk.
July 3 - attempted hike to rhododendron
The original plan was to drive to the end of Nadu Road, follow the old road through the town site to the pier and hopefully see the huge Rhododendron in bloom. Sounded like a good plan.
However, the plan was interrupted. There is a very old "roadway" that can be picked out on this hike, but it is unmarked and overgrown. Hard to believe there used to be a road, a bridge, and a peat moss factory. the road is completely overgrown with mosses and the elder are starting to grow in, although, I suppose there is only a little soil on the roadway - so it is easy to follow if you know what to look for. Lots of old abandoned relics of the former town site - some old trucks, a "reservoir?? and I understand the mating grounds of the sandhill crane. Just past the reservoit, it became very dense and some unidentified sounds were heard nearby. Not sure what it was - a bear? a tree creaking? a pteradactyl? Not wanting to stick around and find out, I turned tail and started back out along the same path that we took in, regrettably and missed out on the rhodo - perhaps there will be another time. in the meantime - I think I will read up on the Sandhill Crane.
